Washington's Landing

Washington’s Landing is located on a 42-acre island of reclaimed urban land on the Allegheny River, two miles north of Downtown Pittsburgh. The Master Plan, one of the first Act 2 brownfield sites in Pennsylvania, anticipated the development of a dense, mixed use neighborhood anchored by major civic amenities such as a park, the Rivertrail and a marina. EP&D prepared a series of design guidelines for site planning, architecture, streetscape amenities and public improvements, shoreline improvements, landscaping and plantings.

Washington’s Landing was named a Phoenix Award finalist in 1997. The Phoenix Award is a national honor for outstanding innovation and achievement in brownfield development. In addition, the Urban Land Institute (ULI) recognized the quality of this redevelopment project by documenting Washington’s Landing as a Development Case Study in 1997.
